Projects

Current ongoing projects, among many, include:

Writing West Midlands is a new literature development agency for the West Midlands, formed by combining the work of the Birmingham Book Festival and the Write On project (see below).

The Birmingham Book Festival is an annual Festival of events and activities for readers and writers. It also runs a year round programme of writing workshops and other occasional events and the UK’s largest writers in schools programme (Write On! Adventures in Writing – see below for details).

Write On! – Adventures in Writing is the Birmingham Book Festival’s Creative Writing in Education programme. It works with 1800 children per year in over sixty schools in the West Midlands, currently in Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Stoke on Trent and Wolverhampton. Write On! – Adventures in Writing is managed as part of the Birmingham Book Festival.

West Midlands Readers’ Network is a network set up to support readers’ groups. It is run by a consortium of public libraries, readers’ groups, bookshops and publishers and is managed on a day-to-day basis by Midland Creative Projects Limited. It promoted the Orange Readers’ Day on the afternoon of Saturday 9th May 2009, the most successful Orange Readers’ Day with over 400 people attending.

We are working with the Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature to fund-raise and manage a UK tour of Dutch writers during 2009 and 2010, to include Geert Mak, Cynthia Mc Leod and Frank Westerman and others.

Following our successful fund-raising and management of Warwickshire Library and Information Service ‘s Fantastic Fun With Words festival in 2008 we successfully raised funds for two further Festivals, the first in September 2009 (successfully completed) and the second in October 2010.
