National Poetry Day 2010 Library Staff Training

National Poetry Day 2010 Library Staff Training presented by Jonathan Davidson and Brenda Read-Brown

“This is absolutely fantastic, just the sort of thing we’d like to see delivered across the UK to encourage more and more people in the enjoyment of poetry, on NPD and throughout the year.” Jo Bell, Director, National Poetry Day

This year’s National Poetry Day will be on Thursday 7th October 2010 and the theme will be ‘home’. As you may know, we have been involved in helping library staff get the best from working with poetry for many years through various projects. This year we have decided to work together to produce a training course to help library staff make the most of National Poetry Day. We hope you will be interested in booking one or both of us to come and train your staff.

The National Poetry Day 2010 Library Staff Training will be available as a full day or as half-days. Here are some details:

  • Suitable for frontline and managerial staff – anyone concerned with taking full advantage of National Poetry Day
  • Delivered in a venue of your choice – available for between ten and forty members of staff
  • Devised in two parts: Getting Inspired & Making it Happen – available as a full day or two separate half-days
  • Staff will become more confident in discussing and promoting poetry – both contemporary and classic
  • Staff will become more creative in devising new activities – appealing to a wide range of library users
  • Includes checklists to help thorough planning and preparation and to encourage proactive promotion
  • Includes simple and efficient ways of evaluating the impact of National Poetry Day events and activities

The National Poetry Day 2010 Library Staff Training courses are available to book from May until September 2010. Costs for the full day course start at £295+VAT (averaging at £29.50 per person for a group of ten staff or fewer – less for larger groups) plus travel costs for trainer. Courses for fewer than twenty staff will be delivered by either Jonathan Davidson or Brenda Read-Brown. Courses with more participants may be delivered by both trainers.

What some of our friends in the library and poetry world have been kind enough to say the following about our work:

“National Poetry Day is the UK’s greatest celebration of poetry. It’s wonderful to see professionals of the calibre of Jonathan Davidson and Brenda Read-Brown getting involved and offering support for the event. I hope this will encourage more and more people to take part in our annual festivities.” Jo Bell, Director, National Poetry Day

“Brenda Read-Brown and Jonathan Davidson are passionate about poetry and committed to introducing as many people as possible to the pleasures of reading and listening. With impressive track records, their training will genuinely help build new readerships for contemporary poetry.” Chloe Garner, Director, Ledbury Poetry Festival
